Grounds for Sculpture

"In 1984, J. Seward Johnson, sculptor and philanthropist, envisioned a public sculpture garden and museum in Hamilton, NJ. His desire was to make contemporary sculpture as an art form more accessible and to offer people from all backgrounds the opportunity to become comfortable with contemporary art. Grounds For Sculpture was conceived as a place where audiences could experience sculpture in a familiar, accessible, and informal setting."

"Construction on the sculpture park began in 1989 on the site of the former New Jersey State Fairgrounds; Grounds For Sculpture opened to the general public in 1992. Since its inception, the park has built a collection of over 240 works, including sculptures by renowned artists Clement Meadmore, Anthony Caro, Beverly Pepper, Kiki Smith, and New Jersey sculptor George Segal. Some of the works in the collection were commissioned specifically for the sculpture park, such as Magdalena Abakanowicz’s Space of Stone and New Jersey artist Isaac Witkin’s Garden State. Work on the park and sculpture acquisitions were financed by public tax-exempt bonds and private foundations associated with founder J. Seward Johnson."

Grounds For Sculpture - Video

Here's a little video I took trying out a new camera at the Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, NJ. (Your view when seated outside of the restaurant.)
This place is beautiful! I will go back again when everything is in full bloom.

Quilt Stencils

1. First I used Microsoft Word "Insert Shapes" to get my perfect stars in 5 different sizes.
2. I placed the printout under my stencil plastic and traced the stars onto the plastic with a permanent market.
3. Then I used the Stencil Cutter to cut my design into the plastic. This is done by placing the plastic on a piece of glass first. Next you go over your outline in a dotted line fashion.
4. I found this design on the Internet and put it onto Microsoft Word so I could adjust it to just the size I wanted.
5. This is the Chalk Pounce used to transfer your design onto your fabric.
6. Stopper comes out and that's where the chalk goes in.
7. See, there's the chalk on the bottom.
8. A sample of the one design after it was pounced through the stencil.

Isabella's Quilt

This quilt was made for my friend Vivian's granddaughter who is now 3.(Somehow I missed getting it done for her birth. Oops) The challenge in doing this quilt is that it was all designed around the piece of print fabric my friend Helen gave me. It is also the first quilt that I've done free-motion quilting on. I made my own stencils and used a chalk pounce tool to transfer the designs onto the fabric with variegated colored thread for the stitching.
